"I am producing and editing a radio documentary for a public radio station in Youngstown Ohio. Bus system

Took my first ride on the NRTA system here. They have installed new
automated announcements. They are fantastic! Its always interesting
to see the island come to life, but its most nice to see the buses
come back. I only wish they ran year round. For all communities out
there that may be considering a bus system, build it to be year round
and servicing your working people. Public transport is critical to a
good community.

Pacific Club

Went to a session for Preservation Month today at the Pacific Club.
It was a great opportunity to see some parts of a building most
people don't get to see. The third floor has a great barrel roof
ceiling and you can get up behind it on the way to the roofwalk. The
underside (aboveside?) of it is very cool. Its a great building and
I hope that the money can come through to start to restore it. Maybe
this tour is a good kick off for the restoration. There is nearly
two or more feet of water in the basement on a regular basis due to
the water table. What a shame - but at least its not drying out in
between.

Also, I hope that someone can pull together the funding for the
Sconset Golf Club buildings and landscape. Thats a major historic
site and I would hate to see it go away. There was a letter to the
editor in the Independent about the barn there. I hope the Coffin
Family can make it happen. I have suggested to them that they need
to consider forming a non-profit to find the grants and funding.

New articles going out on Yesterday's Island

Well I have started to write some new articles for Yesterday's Island
here on Nantucket. I will post them after they have been published
and put in the papers. Its great fun to be able to talk about the
history, buildings, and landscapes of Nantucket - even if I get a bit
down about them sometimes.

The Star Drive-In near Middleboro, MA. I love the dark clouds and the glow of the neon.

An abandoned coal mine building. The light through the ceiling to floor window really showed off the dust and patina on the room.

A one-room school house near Waynesburg, PA. The dark green of the summer overhangs that nice red color on the walls.

The Maine seacoast near Brunswick.The house is perched high above the multi-colors of pine trees and ocean.

Tuckernuck Roads

A road winds on Tuckernuck Island. I enjoy the use of greens and the way that the road sort of calls you on. We even have this one hanging on our wall. I need to dig out the original to post.

A small alley in Nantucket. I liked the way the darkness of this image creates a feeling of evening. The compressed space creates a feeling of expectation.

Cow House

An old abandoned house (unless you count the cows) near Lancaster, NH. The photo itself was stunning, but the filters made it feel a bit more alive. I tried this frame concept. It does bring out the rust colors, but its a work in progress.

Brant Point Light

Brant Point Lighthouse, Nantucket, MA. I felt that the simplicity of the filter applied to this photo was quite nice. It creates a starkness, yet the browns and blues make it feel soft.

South Church Dome

A view of the South Church dome, recently regilded. I enjoy the way the dark levels bring out the movement in the trees and the yellow of the dome.

Golden Field

An artistic version of a field I found in the midwest. I find the bright yellows of the field to be a great contrast to the blues of the sky. The tree's vertical ties the two colors together.
